Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition Becomes Fastest Selling Xbox Pre-Order
Microsoft announced an exclusive Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition at Gamescom 2017 last Sunday. Pre-orders for the limited edition console were made available immediately to the many fans who had been eagerly waiting to secure a Xbox One X. And now the Scorpio Edition has gone on to become the fastest-selling Xbox console pre-order ever. The success of the new console is underlined by the fact that many retailers have already sold out of the special edition.
The Fastest Selling Xbox Pre-Order
The Xbox One X console is set to hit store shelves on November 7. Pre-orders for the standard edition are yet to be announced. However, at Gamescom Microsoft shook the gaming world by revealing the Project Scorpio Edition. Even more significant was the fact that the console was immediately available to reserve prior to the November release. Xbox fans went crazy. Great marketing from Microsoft.
Consequently the limited edition version of the Xbox One X set record sell out times. More units of the console were pre-ordered in the first five days than any other Xbox in history. The Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition is now sold out in most countries worldwide. Project Scorpio is the original code name for the Xbox One X during development. The limited run edition is a tribute to that history.
The news came in an announcement made by Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President of Marketing for Xbox Mike Nichols. The executive thanked Xbox fans for their support and promised more news on the question, particularly those that missed out on the Scorpio Edition, that everyone is asking:
When Will Xbox One X Pre-Orders Open?
As mentioned above, and elsewhere on this site, pre-orders for the ‘standard’ Xbox One X have not yet opened. Microsoft has created a lot of hype with what will be the world’s most powerful gaming console and gamers are loving it. This obviously led to the popularity of Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition pre-orders as people look to secure a unit of their own. The biggest question however, is when will Xbox One X pre-orders open?
Mr Nichols tried to reassure gamers in the same press release celebrating the phenomenal Project Scorpio pre-orders.
“Although our fans may no longer be able to pre-order the Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition in their country, we know people are still anxious to get their hands on the world’s most powerful console. We will be announcing details of the next wave of Xbox One X standard edition pre-orders next month so stay tuned for more information.”
So there you have it, Xbox One X pre orders are likely to be announced (open?) next month. That’s September, and scarily close to the November 7 release date. Will Microsoft be able to manage expectations and demand?
