Great news for fans of Frostpunk’s developer: 11 Bit Studios has officially announced the release date of their upcoming sci-fi survival game, The Alters. The game is set to launch on June 13, 2025, a date revealed during the Triple-I Initiative showcase.

The Alters: A Deep Sci-Fi Survival Experience Exploring Cloning

The Alters is being described as a deeply emotional science fiction game. Players will take on the role of Jan Dolski, the sole survivor of a failed space expedition that crash-landed on a hostile, uninhabited planet.

After discovering a temporary shelter, Jan learns that the next sunrise will occur in three days. However, when it does, the intensity of the sun’s heat will be strong enough to incinerate both him and the base.

To survive, Jan resorts to an unconventional and morally complex solution—creating multiple clones of himself, known as “Alters.” Each Alter represents a different version of Jan, shaped by the various life choices he could have made in the past. These Alters come with distinct skills, emotions, and personalities. Jan can assign them to carry out tasks such as technical work, mining, and botany—critical for maintaining the base and finding a way to escape.

The more Alters Jan creates, the higher his chances of survival. But each new Alter also introduces ethical dilemmas and psychological challenges, as their unique memories and traits can lead to conflict and difficult decisions. Managing these personalities becomes as crucial as managing the base itself.

Survival Isn’t Just About Resources—It’s About Choices

The game blends elements of adventure, base-building, and survival. In addition to handling the relationships with his Alters, players must deal with the harsh environmental dangers of the alien planet. According to Eurogamer, Jan can die from radiation wounds, temporal disintegration, or exposure to high levels of nighttime radioactivity that even protective suits may not block.

This makes The Alters not just a test of survival strategy, but also of emotional intelligence and decision-making under pressure.

The Alters will be released on June 13, 2025, and will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. In addition, the game will be free to play for subscribers of Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass.
